Andrew found his parents in the sitting room, though the TV was off for once. His mother was sorting through a pile of newspapers while his father was looking at a tablet. Both of them were frowning.
“Wouldn’t you be better doing that online?” he asked.
“Possibly,” Sonia said. “That’s what your father’s doing. But I find it easier to do it this way.”
“What are you looking for?” Read the rest of this entry »

“Oh come on, Nari,” Andrew said as he followed her and Lyrrekka down into the cellar. “You said he wasn’t happy – why are you being so mean?”
“I… well…” she began.
“I called Naria-alra something bad,” Yedan said haltingly before continuing in draconic.
Naria paused and tilted her head at him before responding in the same language. Read the rest of this entry »

Daniel closed his eyes and threw out a ward towards the creature. The ward wrapped around the creature momentarily and held it firm, but only for a moment before it slipped loose and he sensed it trying to dart past them. He still couldn’t see it, but he could sense its panic.
“What the hell?!” From his exclamation it seemed Matthias could sense it now as well; that was something at least. The shadows in the corridor coiled out of the corners and struck at the thing. Daniel blinked at his father for a moment and then threw his own weight behind his father’s efforts but still they couldn’t get a grip on it. Read the rest of this entry »

“That’s the sixty-four million dollar question, isn’t it?” Sonia said. “Whatever it is, this spy isn’t constrained by either wards or physical constraints. It’s going to be tricky.”
“That’s one way to put it,” Daniel said. “But now that you put it that way, I think impossible might be more accurate.” Read the rest of this entry »

“Daniel, come with me,” his mother said. “I need your help.”
“Of course, Mum,” he said.
She lead him out of the house and across the grounds to a copse of trees. When they reached a clearing at the centre of the copse, she stopped and looked up at the sky. “Oh good, it’s still here.” She closed her eyes and a moment later a rope ladder dropped out of thin air. “Come on.” She climbed up the ladder, vanishing as she continued past the top. Andrew started heading to the lounge when they got back from talking to the ice dwarf but Naria grabbed his hand and pulled him over to Anthony.
“Are you feeling up to giving Drew a lesson?” she asked.
Anthony was sitting with Selene, who was staring into a steaming cup of water with an intense expression. Both of them looked up at Naria in surprise.
Andrew stiffened and opened his mouth to growl that he didn’t want a lesson from the man who had attacked her, but Naria shook her head at him.
You need training, Drew, she said mentally. Give him a chance. Read the rest of this entry »

“Well, we gather she has her eyes on Earth,” Matthias said.
“It seems so,” Elsed said. “Which of itself would just be exasperating. Quite a few of the idri council talk about invading Gaia but it’s just talk. The Kithreia changed themselves so drastically that only the strongest can stay there indefinitely. Their former home wears on their essence–”
“Lyr, is that going to be a problem for you?” Matthias interrupted. Read the rest of this entry »

Sarah had a wry smile on her face when she returned from calling Stefan.
“How did it go?” Matthias asked.
“He chewed me out for not trusting him,” she said. “He said that he had been waiting for me to call ever since Marian called him.” She snorted and shook her head. “He also said that things are just as bad on the continent and the European families are barely keeping on top of it. He asked me what the hell happened.” Read the rest of this entry »

A/N: The Storm Child Campaign on IndieGoGo has finished and I raised $519 before fees! Thank you, everyone! If you missed the boat and still want to contribute get in touch and we’ll work something out.
We have a visitor, Valeria, her throne told her as she checked her border wards. She looked up in surprise because she still had her borders locked down.
A visitor? Friendly? she asked.
I don’t know, it replied. Strong, certainly, so they could be a threat, but I sense no hostility and they are waiting inside the first ward so they sensed when they passed through it. Read the rest of this entry »

A/N: We’re into the Last 34 hours of the Storm Child Campaign!
Don’t miss the boat!
By the time Sarah finished explaining what had happened to them, both teens were pale and May had laid her head on her arms. But the situation being what it was, Karen was surprised they weren’t reacting more.
They’re emotionally exhausted, Sarah said mentally. And I suspect Lucas put in some minor blocks to stop them panicking. That would be the last thing we need – at least not until we’ve taught them some control. Read the rest of this entry »
