I don’t really get why the Dark Rider doesn’t try to kill them. He knows that Andrew is still weak, and he has the element of surprise (sort of) so why can’t he just get Andrew, draw the others to try to get him back, and deal with them that way instead of being in this time-taking race?

He has his reasons for wanting to get the bracelet.

Once he gets out of the woods, Ebona should be faster than them. She can race direct, but the road winds a bit.

He attacked the merfolk and spooked the group not long before dawn. They set off not long after dawn (Lydia checks on where the sunrise is while cooking breakfast), so he only had a couple of hours on them. They made up the time because Ebona was slowed to a slow walking pace in the woods.

So it is them…

…well, the transport they found *is* quite fast

…who does the rider need to proof wrong, so he does not attack them right away?

Why would he need the ice-bracelet at first? To keep Andrew weak?

And how will they make up the time, when the others are that much faster (they caught up several hours delay in the short time they rested at the lake) than the rider plus he has to stop every now and then to get Mela refreshed…?
