“We’re willing, I think,” Lydia said. “But I’m not sure that it’s the best or most productive use of our time.” She tapped her fingers on the table thoughtfully. “We should ask our allies to look into that and then go and try to find her once we know where to look. I…” She hesitated and examined her feelings. “I think we need to look for the other dragon knights. I can’t explain why we need to but I have a sense that it’s important we find them.”

“Well, it would make sense,” Sonia said. “If we can flip them, they’ll make powerful allies and I’m not sure that the wards we placed on them won’t erode in the current circumstances. We certainly don’t want Gerian getting them back. The last thing we need is trouble in the other world while we’re coping with the crisis here.” She cupped her chin in her hand. “But if you’re not getting any detail, do you think you’re being blocked again?”

Lydia considered the question, then shook her head. “No, at least I don’t think so. I don’t feel like I did when that vision about Jenny was being blocked. It’s more like a psychically enhanced hunch than a true premonition. Does that make sense?”

“It makes perfect sense, Lyd.” Sonia looked down the table at Tarian. “Any chance you could show her how to enhance a hunch like that to get more detail?”

“Of course,” he said.

“Good.” She looked over at Julie. “I don’t suppose you have an address book with them in it.”

Julie laughed and shook her head. “Sadly, no. We’ll have to do this hard way. But since I know more about the others than you do, I can probably help you scry for them.” She frowned to herself. “What are our chances of getting their heart friends free of Gerian?”

“Except for Alison’s, it might be possible,” Tarian said. “If we can get Endaria-miria or Takilyan-mirian to pressure him into it.” He shook his head. “I still can’t believe he did that to the others’ heart friends. It was understandable with Kirsikka.”

“I fail to see how that could ever be understandable,” Lyrrekka said.

“Oh, yes, you missed that, didn’t you,” Tarian said. “It was the only way to save Alison’s life since even his best healers couldn’t stabilize Kirsikka after he rescued the two of them from Shalriya.” He paused and sighed. “I think Alaryia-miria or the healers at Waldhafen could fix her up but good luck getting him to agree to send her to either.”

Lyrrekka scowled at her plate. “Okay, I’ll concede that it probably was justified in that case then, but that girl needs her heart friend well. Having such a seriously hurt heart friend is probably part of why she was so unstable.”

“Probably,” he agreed. “And I suspect Gerian knows that but he’d never agree to accept aid from someone he considers an enemy. Not even with Endaria-miria and Takilyan-mirian both bullying him.”

“It’s worth having them try,” Lyrrekka said. “Since launching a rescue would be dangerous and almost certainly futile. I’ll send an imp to Alaryia and ask her for input and to ask them.”
