State of the Becka – Summer Edition

Hello Peeps!
Where I’m at
As you’ve probably noticed I’ve only been updating once a week. This is mostly a time thing but also an energy thing. I will start trying to update Tales of the First again this Friday (ie 2nd August) as I have a reasonable amount of buffer. If this proves feasible I will aim to start updating Whisper again at the end of August/beginning September. I’m going to try putting everything in the backend as drafts at the weekend and then publishing on the correct day and see if that helps.
Moving forward
Okay the first part of this is going to seem a little negative. Please don’t take it that way. I’m trying to be realistic.
Firstly I’d like to get the book version of Lord of the Wolves out this year but my old editor is no longer available for work and I am flat stoney broke so I can’t afford a new one or cover art. I feel I’ve been too flakey this past couple of years to try a crowdfunding campaign so I’m thinking about solutions. I’m not asking for donations, because I wouldn’t feel comfortable that I might not flake out again yet. So if you want to help out and you haven’t already then buying a copy of Haventon Born if you haven’t already and can afford it would help as would dropping an (honest) review at Amazon or Goodreads.
But you might want to wait a couple of days before buying… why?
Because I’m thinking of having a sale and dropping the price of the Haventon ebook to an mere 99 cents for a month to see if I can stir up some sales. I’d make less money per book in most venues but it’s not selling anyway at the moment so I’ve nothing to lose there. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I’d be curious if people think this is a good idea as it may well be that the problem isn’t price but simply me not being good at the black art of making people aware my book exists.
Secondly I’m going to start writing a post most Sundays that will be about worldbuilding for my various works… starting tomorrow with a couple of Maps related to Lawgiver’s Blade!
Thirdly if I made a Discord server would anyone come and talk to me? *curious*
See you tomorrow for those maps!
Hey!!! Probably goons go backwards here. I don’t know Discord is and am terrible at keeping up with things like this. We’ve e-mauled in the past and would be happy to chat anytime!! 😊
Looking forward to the world building!! I always have fun imagining worlds and can’t wait to see your maps!!
Sound like your working so hard. Planning to go buy the Dragin wars books I’ve not got yet and probably the Haverton book. Your Dragon books have always been my favourite! 😊
Good luck. I know it’s not easy but you have created some awesome e worlds. I am particularly anticipating your next supers-of-the-red-fog chapter (as im calling it privately). 👍🏼💖
Supers of the red fog 🙂 I like that.
I need to give some serious work to the Dragon Wars … I want to get back to it soon. Maybe I’ll pencil the rewrite of arc 4 in for November (NaNoWriMo). I also need to finish the Sundered Light first.
The maps should be fun… I enjoy worldbuilding so much.
Discord is a chatroom type thing.
😊😉
Have you considered having a dedicated Becka Sutton -Authour Facebook page? Quite a few of my fav authors have one and it’s a really good way to stay in touch with your fan base, give updates and just chat for feedback. There are also FB pages dedicated to book promotions or reviews to help you get exposure. Just a idea 💡 😊
There is a Firebird Fiction page https://www.facebook.com/FirebirdFiction/ which I am terrible about maintaining (partly because I don’t much care for Facebook and partly because I’m not sure to say…
I should try and post once a week at least I guess.
Becca,
I would join your discord server. Though finding you is going to be a pain without in invite link.
I don’t have one yet. I’m just considering it. But that’s good to know.
If I do make one there will be a link, don’t worry. 🙂
