“I have no idea,” Indaturan said. “As far as I know, my aunt had no connection to the clans that initiated the purge.” He put his hand over Marian’s. “Show me what you are sensing?

“Of course.” She closed her eyes. They stood there a moment before Indaturan pulled back with a gasp.

“What the heck! I think there’s more information under that lock than in the main content.” He scowled at the block. “We need to find the password.”

“I take it we can’t just ask her,” Matthias said.

“Unfortunately not,” Indaturan said. “My aunt died a very long time ago in one of the internecine wars of the Kithreiri. But she would have anticipated that. She must have left a clue somewhere. She kept a sort of diary; I’ll let Marian look at that as well. Maybe she left it in there but if she did, she hid that from me, as well.”

“Maybe we can hack them,” Lydia said.

“That’s not impossible,” Darlryan said. “But it’s more difficult than hacking a computer. I’ll take a pass at them if Ind doesn’t mind, but I don’t hold out much hope.”

“I have a thought,” Marian said. “But I’ll need help. I might be able to find out how to access it retrocognitively. “

“You probably could,” Indaturan said. “But you might set your recovery back. Still, this is important and I’m not sure you’re used to working with less power yet.”

Marian shrugged. “That’s why I want Mu- why I want Julie and Adrian to help. As well as being backup they’ll be able to keep an eye on me and make sure I don’t overstress myself.”

“If you’re sure,” he said. “But we’ll wait a couple of days see if we can’t find the access requirement some other way. It’ll give me time to repair a bit more of the damage as well.”

“Okay.” Marian looked over at Matthias. “Have you decided what you’re going to do with me yet?”

“No,” he said. “You’re a very tricky problem, Marian.”

“I know,” she said. “I asked Indaturan-mirian what dragons would do in this situation and well, it would be a nice solution but it’s not an option for me.”

“Hmm?” Matthias cocked his head at Indaturan.

“What we’re doing with Savira-ida,” he said.

“Ah, yes,” Matthias said. “It’s a shame that’s not an optio–” He broke off as Julie cleared her throat and gave him a challenging look.

“The elephant in the room would like to point out that it might be possible.”

“Huh?” Matthias looked confused for a moment before his eyes widened. “Oh!”

“Well, she is very close,” Indaturan said. “She could certainly train as a Tasaria if she wanted. The training would help with healing her essence as well. I didn’t think of that. But…” he frowned over at Darlryan. “We can’t ask Gerian how to get her through transition alive. Do you know?”

“I have a fair idea but I’m not one hundred percent sure,” Darlryan said. “But I’m willing to bet Elidyr knows, so we can ask him once he’s recovered.”

“So we can do it that way?” Marian said.

“Not until we don’t need your talents any more,” Indaturan said. “And it’s very dangerous. At best you’ll be deathly ill for your entire childhood. “

“I don’ care if I’m sick,” Marian said. “I deserve it. I think it’s an excellent solution. If we get through this can we do that, please?”

    Becka,

You know it seems you are rehabilitating many enemies via this method. 🙂 Ok maybe one other.

    • Rebecca Sutton says:

It’s a traditional dragon (and kithreiri) method of dealing with criminals they deem capable of rehabilitation.
