A/N: somehow originally posted last Monday’s post again. Sorry about that – here’s the right one.

Julie had opened the gate into the garden of the dorm house rather than the house itself. Lydia got the feeling that placing the exit in a small space would have been risky, but there was nobody out here to help with their frightened guests. She took advantage of Jenny’s mother’s shock at being transported so abruptly to shoot a mental appeal to her parents.

The woman looked around wildly and Lydia could feel her thoughts racing as she tried to work out where she was and how she and her daughter had got there.

“Please calm down,” Lydia said. “You’re safe here. We won’t let your daughter be taken by the government. I promise.”

The woman’s head whipped around to stare at her. “Who are you? Where are we? How did we get here?” Her rising panic was so strong it made Lydia’s stomach tense.

“Please calm down,” Lydia repeated and tried to push calming vibes at her. “You’re both safe.”

The woman glared at her, fear and distrust obvious in her eyes, and her panic was rising to a peak. and Lydia only had a split second to duck as the woman lashed out at her. She looked up, expecting to have to dodge another blow, but instead found Sonia restraining her. After a moment, the woman slumped unconscious into Sonia’s arms.

“She’ll sleep a little while now,” Sonia said then grinned and added. “You’ve made the news, Lyd.”

“What?” Lydia said. “That was fast.”

“No details yet, but they were getting news of an incident in London just as you returned,” Sonia said.

“I see.” Lydia turned to check on Jenny to find Lucas and Sarah kneeling by the unconscious girl. “Is she okay?”

“She’ll be fine,” Sarah said. “She’s not affected by the virus. But there’s something odd… It feels like something is calling her.”

“Something is,” Lucas said. “She perceives it as singing but I think that’s because she has a sound affinity. I think it’s coming from the void. She was trying to go to it. I think I can filter it out until we’ve taught her control. I checked on the other two kids and Lisa as well; They’re fine but I suspect this isn’t unique to her.” He scooped her. “Let’s get them into bed in a spare room before we go and see what the news is saying.”

“Okay.” Lydia bent down and picked up Jenny’s mother with Karen’s help. “Oh! Drew got the vial.”

“Great!” Sarah said. “Give it to me – I’ll analyse it.”

Wow, is she out of her mind? They just saved her and her daughter and she tries to hit a girl???
    😕
    */me dislikes her*

    I hope Jenny is nicer…

To be fair she’s terrified out of her mind and as far as she knows she’s just been kidnapped by a bunch of strangers. She doesn’t know they mean her and Jenny any better than the army.

True, but they are still kids (yeah, well, teenagers…) and they were telling her that she is save (or is that safe? I always have problems with that one…), they were not apprehending her or threatening her nor crowding her in, but saved her … and her daughter!
