A/N: Sorry it’s a little short and rough. I have had a headache all day.

The next morning Amanpreet woke early only to discover that the council had already gone into an emergency session over Kayla’s evidence and the attack on Merit. She couldn’t get a pass to actually view the session in the chamber at such short notice but, fortunately, all the Council’s deliberations were streamed everywhere on Altheia for those who wanted to watch. So she grabbed a bowl of cereal and settled down to watch.

Sienna’s mother Margaret fussed over her when she picked her up. Her father Robert was out of town at a conference but he called as soon as the phone network was back up and was obviously just as frantic.

“Are you sure you’re okay, sweetpea?” he asked after she’d told him about Lucy’s collapse. “I think so, Dad,” Sienna said. “It was scary but whatever that gas was it didn’t have the same effect on me it did on Lu and she’s going to be fine even though they’re keeping her in for observation.”

It was a hot autumn day and when they reached them they were already taking a break, sharing a flagon of ale and chatting like old friends. Prima was pacing nervously and it was only with effort that Amanpreet stopped herself from joining her. Eventually the console beeped and Niobe mashed the button hard in her eagerness to answer it.

Sienna readied herself for another attack, signalling her friends to carry on while she had the guy distracted then froze when instead of charging her again he instead gave another bellow and shattered glass and broken masonry rose off the ground and flew at the four of them. Sienna threw up her hand in what should have been a futile warding gesture and the pain that had been building in her head exploded before fading to nothing. In the same instant the flying masonry stopped short, disintegrated and fell to the floor in a fine dust.

The next morning there was no sign Tamasa had been anywhere. Her boots were clean of mud and her cloak bone dry. Alidra knew it could not have dried so quickly. It must have been a dream.

They were eating their morning porridge when there was a knock at the door. Tamasa opened it to reveal one of the mages from the search party.
“Can I help you, honoured mage?” she asked politely.
