“I can understand that,” Ophelia said. “From what Silver tells me, they are as much victims as perpetrators in this situation. That’s why I told her we had to look for a cure. But we still can’t let them run around hurting people or stealing their bodies. Would this Alsia really object to that?”

“Well if they don’t want a war, they are going about avoiding one in completely the wrong way. Attacking people, making them lose control when they emerge. Xantaria is a nasty bitch but she’s not stupid. She has to know that what she’s doing will provoke a war.”

In the pool of light cast by one of the softly glowing gold crystals embedded in the pillars, Ophelia spied a woman who not only looked completely human but also did not look old enough to be anyone’s grandmother. As they entered, she looked up from the book she was reading, revealing one inhuman feature – bright gold eyes. She gave them a warm smile and rose to her feet, extending her hands towards them. After dinner, Ophelia lay on her stomach on Sera’s bed and tried to work on her homework. It wasn’t easy because her mind kept going back to what was happening.

“Ugh!” A gentle shaking roused Ophelia from unconsciousness and she found herself lying on the footpath. “I’m alive?” She tried to sit up but a wave of nausea stopped her.
