Kaliss didn’t just respond to Indaturan’s imp but requested transport to join the disscussion. When she arrived, she turned out to be a pretty psychad, small and ethereal with pearlescent hair and large black eyes that reflected the thoughts of those around her. Only the lack of a visible aura and her short stature revealed that she was in her resting form. She looked nervous as she entered the throne room, bobbing her head nervously at the dragons before walking over to where Savira was still unconscious on the floor. She looked down at her heart friend and sighed.
“You brought this on yourself, Sav,” she said sadly. “Even if it’s possible, completing our bond isn’t worth the pain you’ve caused while searching for a way.” She bit her lip and looked up at Ystelyan. “Indaturan-mirian says you have some questions? I don’t know how much help I’ll be. Sav and I don’t talk and I can’t sense much from her because of how weak our bond is. I didn’t even know she’d been hurt until Indaturan-mirian’s messenger arrived.”
“That weak?” Alarya gave her a startled look. “That has to hurt.”
“I think you would still have sensed this if we’re right,” Ystelyan said. “Even your fragile bond wouldn’t have been able to block it. We think she changed herself somehow.”
“It does hurt,” Kaliss said softly. “And yes, I think she did do something. I don’t know what exactly but it changed me too and suddenly I have an earth affinity I never had before and Life doesn’t burn me any more.”
Alaryia’s eyebrows shot up. “We guessed about the Life thing but she gave herself and you a new affinity? How did she manage that?”
“I don’t know,” Kaliss said. “And it’s not much use to me either since I can’t take my full form.” Her expression became wistful. “I’d like to, even if it was just once, but it’s impossible.”
Alaryia had opened her mouth to respond to the first part of that but instead she stopped short and stared at Kaliss. “Wait,” she said finally. “You’ve never taken your full form?”
“I can’t,” she said quietly. “Not even when I was still with Sav.”
“Void! Just how weak is your bond?” Alaryia shook her head. “Est, do you think that toy of yours would solve this?”
Estara tutted to herself. “Well it won’t fix their bond, but it should allow her to take her full form. I’ll make one for you, Lady Kaliss.”
“You will? Really!” Kaliss stared at Estara. “Thank you!” She hesitated and looked towards Savira. “What are you going to do with her?”
“We haven’t decided yet,” Ystelyan said. “We need to question her first, find out why she tried to kill Lydia-ida and then we’ll have to discuss it.” He gave her a reassuring smile. “But I do know we won’t kill her. You don’t deserve to die.”
“Do you have any idea why she tried to kill me?” Lydia asked.
Kaliss shook her head. “I wish I did. I want to help.” She paused as Savira groaned and began to stir. “I guess we’ll find out together.”
