A/N: Quick request for readers who have a moment and want to help out. The Dragon Wars TV Tropes Page hasn’t been updated in quite a while so if people can spare some time to update it and cross link to the tropes that would be awesome. Thanks

“Sonia says her team will stay in place for a while until we’re sure it’s over but she’s not sensing any more danger tonight,” Matthias said when they returned to the school.

Lydia closed her eyes for a moment and concentrated. Her stomach felt calm now and her skin was no longer itching. “I don’t either,” she said. “I think it’s over for now.”

“Well, that’s good,” Alexandra said. She turned to Peter with a warm smile. “We’ll find you a spare bed to stay in until it’s safe for you to go back.”

“What’s the reaction to the second broadcast?” he asked.

“People are furious,” Carl replied. He looked surprised by that. “Furious we were attacked, furious about the attempted coup, praising us for stopping it.” He was sitting in one corner with his head in his hands but after a moment he raised his head and looked over at Julie. “Were we wrong about how people would react to us as well?”

Julie shrugged. “It’s the fickleness of people that’s the problem. They like us for now because we’ve saved them this time, but soon enough envy of our abilities might set in and then they’ll try and destroy us.” She tutted to herself. “It would have been safer to stay unknown but in the circumstances it’s no longer possible. Managing this situation will be harder but it’s not impossible.”
“So what do we do?” he asked.

“Work on keeping our image positive,” Matthias said. “Firstly, we need to get the Prime Minister to officially appoint us to deal with the emergent kids rather than sending them to be experimented on. Stopping that happening is important and preventing the sort of messes we’ve seen will also incline people to be positive about us.”

“That works,” Julie said. “We have a bit of time as well. I think that we need to make the tear our prime target. Closing that will stop the rest of this mess and let us work on our reputation in peace.”

“I thought so,” Matthias said. “How are the kids we rescued tonight?”

“They’re stiill sleeping but Sarah has healed their infection with the neurotoxin-producing bug and cleared out the energy channels so they can control themselves and won’t turn into monsters.”

“That’s good.” He turned to Sophie Ashbourne. “And we need to discuss the kids in your program as well.”

“I think once things have settled down from this I’ll be able to persuade my superiors that you can train them better than we can,” she said. “Let us deal with it if possible – hide the fact you know about us in advance.”

“That’s a good idea,” he said. “But most of the kids lost their families? We’ll be able to arrange fosterage for them if you want.”
“That’s a good idea,” she said. “Ask if you can re-open the school when the state schools do. They’re planning to do that a week early as part of a plan to stabilise things by re-establishing routines.”

“We’ll do that,” Matthias agreed. “But for now we’d better get some rest. Tomorrow is going to be busy as well.”

      So, here the second part:

      PS: Typo:
“They’re *stiill* sleeping but Sarah has healed their infection with the neurotoxin-producing bug and cleared out the energy channels so they can control themselves and won’t turn into monsters.” => *still* only with one “i” => “They’re *still* sleeping but Sarah has healed their infection with the neurotoxin-producing bug and cleared out the energy channels so they can control themselves and won’t turn into monsters.”
