Chapter Nine Part Three
David’s mind was in a whirl as he rode his motorbike home from Tanya’s that evening. He was riding slower than normal because he knew that he was distracted and that he fortunate that the roads were quiet at this time of night.
He was thinking about if Meredith was right and if he should talk to Tanya about the problems he was having with Leisa? The way she had reacted to Anna’s problem suggested that she would not freak out if he did, at least. And to be honest he could not even imagine Tanya freaking about anything. But she had enough to worry about with Anna’s problem. He did not want to add to her problems when there was little– Read the rest of this entry »

Chapter Nine Part Two
“He…” Tanya trailed off.
David looked over at her and saw that her eyes were narrowed.
“Yes, I found that interesting as well,” Meredith said. “I told him it was ridiculous but he was having none of it.”
“Is that even possible?” he asked. Read the rest of this entry »

Chapter Nine Part One
Ragnar woke the moment Anna began actively fighting his suggestions. With his mind powers severely curtailed by daylight he was forced to watch helplessly as David broke her loose. He lay in the dark and growled curses to himself, curses directed at his bloodline’s founder, Moira, for producing a line which couldn’t use its most basic mind powers properly during the day. Had it been night he would have turned both their minds inside out, but now he would have to wait for sunset to deal with the problem. He choked back a howl only because he didn’t want to disturb Caroline who was curled up on her bed nearby. Sleep like food would make her last longer. He kind of liked her company and didn’t want her to fade away too quickly. Read the rest of this entry »

Chapter Eight Part Three
Michael had agreed with Leisa that they should check if her hunch that it was Ragnar who was messing with Anna’s mind was true, and had even accompanied her on her trip to see, mentally anyway.
Leisa observed Anna for a while before David arrived and realised that while she was right and it was Ragnar who was in the girl’s head Anna was gaining a little ground against him. Which was impressive – Ragnar had overwhelmed some very strong minds in his time. If Anna could fight Ragnar like this then she had Leisa’s respect. Read the rest of this entry »

Chapter Eight Part Two
A/N: Sorry this is up a day late. I got home from work yesterday evening to find my phoneline and broadband weren’t working. I called my provider immediately, but it wasn’t fixed until some time this morning. That’s the one thing I really can’t prevent. :/
David wasn’t sure how he had ended up in Anna’s mind but he had and he knew he had to help her. In the mindscape her could see her trapped in a whirlwind made of another’s thoughts. He struggled across and tried to pull her free but he had no idea how to help her and instead it seemed he succeeded only in triggering another trap. An amorphous mass of darkness rose up around him and seemed intent on engulfing him. He tried to ward it off but knew that he had managed nothing more than the mental equivalent of a futile raising of the hands. Read the rest of this entry »

Chapter Eight Part One
Anna was thinking hard on Friday afternoon as she sat under a rowan tree waiting for David. She had woken that morning having had that same dream again, but this time the whole wrongness of it had seemed even more obvious. Her attacker had really misplayed his hand by stopping her talking about it, it just made it obvious. Someone was trying to control her and being controlled was something that she would not tolerate. Chapter Seven Part Three
She sat down on the edge of David’s bed and placed a hand on his forehead. He stirred slightly, and she pushed him back down in to a deeper sleep before he woke. The necessity of keeping him asleep and the confusion in his mind made making sense of anything he might know a difficult process. She winced and began to sort through it determinedly.
She formed a large part of his thoughts. She hadn’t meant to unsettle him quite this profoundly. Almost everything was linked to his thoughts of her in some way. If she could have sorted his mind out without alerting him she would have. The last thing she needed was a confused vampire hunter being obsessed with her. Read the rest of this entry »

Chapter Seven Part Two
Sarah was preparing a salad to go with the Lasagne she had cooked when David arrived. He could smell garlic bread toasting as well. At least with a diet like that there was little chance Sarah would suffer Marie’s fate.
Her employer had let him in and David studied him thoughtfully as they walked to the dining room. He looked fairly unremarkable, just under six foot, slim built and dressed in black trousers and a white shirt. Sarah had said that they ate together to save money but was that really all there was to it? And why was the back of David’s mind screaming at him to get out of there. Read the rest of this entry »

Chapter Seven Part One
“You sounded really worried on the phone,” Tanya said when she answer the door.
“I was, I am,” he agreed. “But I don’t think we should discuss this on the doorstep.”
“Of course not. Come in.” She stood aside to let him in.
“You shouldn’t do that, Tan,” he said as she led him into the lounge. Then added. “You have a nice place here.”
“Dad bought it for me,” she said. “And I know you aren’t a vampire, Dave. Now let me get you a cup of tea and you can tell me what’s got you so stressed.” Read the rest of this entry »

Chapter Six Part Three
Michael was sleeping when the death link snapped into focus. The always unexpected pain of it made him sit up with a gasp. In the three centuries since he’d risen he’d lost several young ones, so he knew immediately that something was wrong with the link. Every other time it had been powerful and vividly clear, but Ian’s link was cloudy and occluded. Someone was trying to stop them communicating. In a way it was a blessing – experiencing someone’s death as they did was harrowing – but he could sense Ian was desperately trying to communicate something to him. He strained to hold on to Ian’s mind and make the link clearer, but all he gained was a fleeting impression of a dark haired vampire who had somehow paralysed him and an image of the hunter’s face. At the last instant the link cleared and he heard Ian’s voice. Read the rest of this entry »
