The next day Amanpreet found Niobe sitting at her station even though she wasn’t due on duty for a couple of hours. She had a line open to the contact ship and was deep in conversation with Lin. Amanpreet hadn’t realised that Lin was from Cels like Niobe until she realised they were using Trava, an obscure Anglic language that was spoken in parts of Western Cels’ but not many other planets. Amanpreet knew the odd word, enough to recognise that they were discussing translations of one of the Coronan languages but not enough to follow their conversation exactly. She listened for a moment before clearing her throat.

Niobe looked around and grinned. “You should have told me Lin was the team linguist. We used to play together when were little.” Read the rest of this entry »

A/N: A new chapter of Haventon went up yesterday. Don’t forget to check it out.

Andrew and Melissa spoke to Sonia immediately after his session had finished. Sonia listened to Melissa’s idea with a frown.

“Well, we know that he was trying to avoid a repeat of the previous disaster he’d had, and we know the timing of the deaths coincided more with the tear widening – not the initial rip – so that seems reasonable. He may have thought all the problems were caused by the energy leaking in too fast. He was wrong in the case of the Lost Ones but he may have been right about the deaths.” Read the rest of this entry »

A/N: A new chapter of Haventon went up yesterday. Don’t forget to check it out.

Andrew spent the next several minutes pouring his heart out to Melissa about being kidnapped and the pain of knowing that he’d been a part, albeit an unwilling one, in what had happened.

“And now his egg is hatching,” he said finally.

“And you have mixed feelings about giving him another chance?” she asked gently.

Lord of the Wolves

Chapter Two

A/N: Here’s chapter two. Hope you enjoy it peeps. I’ve also made some changes to Chapter One to fix a massive continuity error between book 1 and 2.

Show no weakness. Colin kept his eyes fixed on the wall of his unfurnished room and forced himself to keep breathing in spite of the pain it caused him. At least it distracted him from the memory of what had happened. Even after several days he couldn’t stomach thinking about his failed initiation. He didn’t know where his parents and their pack had found the human teen they’d sacrificed but they were still angry that he hadn’t been able bring himself to share the feast let alone be the one to actually kill the boy.

A/N: I’m sorry for another skipped week. I will try and do better. On the upside there should be a new chapter of Haventon tomorrow (If I get it typed in).

The next few days were quiet. The contact ship was passing messages between Corona and the Council, while Promise was negotiating his people providing transport for the Coronans. Both sets of talks seemed to be going well.

Amanpreet has returned to the Whisper to wait as she did not have much to add to the matter. She’d asked Kayla if she thought the Vaians could be behind the problems with Kiath and her newest navigator had frowned at the wall of her cabin for several minutes before replying. The casserole was wonderful and a nice change after the slightly thin meals of the last few days. However, they did not get to eat it in peace. When they were about half finished, there was a snapping noise from Sarah’s bag.

“Oh!” She bent down and pulled the egg out. There was a small but visible crack in the glassy shell and brown tinted light was glowing out of it. “He’s hatching!” Read the rest of this entry »

A/N: This week’s Whisper will be up on Saturday. Sorry it’s late, peeps.

Matthias was sitting at the kitchen table chopping carrots when they returned. He listened to Sarah explain what had happened with a frown. “”Baby stuff? We can get some, yes, but the egg is that close? I thought it would take weeks or months.” Read the rest of this entry »

“You must find having to go to school very boring,” Andrew said. “Now you have your memories, at least.”

Darlrydan chuckled and shook his head. “Not at all. I enjoy learning new things and scientific knowledge has moved on a lot. If circumstances allow, I’m going to go to University and study physics.” He gave a sigh. “But I have a feeling I might have to keep my attention on Caredale and whatever Xantaria is up to.”

“That would be a pity,” Sarah tutted to herself. “I’m sure that we can figure out some way for you to do both.”

Darlrydan tilted his head at her. “That would be nice, but I’m surprised you trust me.” Read the rest of this entry »

A/N: I’ve made some tweaks to my Patreon – check it out.  You can also check out a sample chapter of my Traditional Fantasy WIP “Shattered”. If pledges reach $50/month I’ll start posting on this site fortnightly. We currently have $33/month pledged so that’s just $17/month to go.

“Possibly.” Sonia frowned quietly. “It strikes me that those times were likely very brutal.”

Darlydan gave her an amused look. “And you don’t think the modern world is brutal? Take it from me, there may be less blood but in other ways it’s just as bad, if not worse.”

Sonia gave him an obviously skeptical look but didn’t challenge him. He chuckled and shook his head. Read the rest of this entry »

Lord of the Wolves

Chapter One

Anna woke to find herself in the spare room at Tanya’s house again. It was night and she could see the waning moon shining through the curtains. For a moment she thought that she had relapsed and the whole horrible ordeal had been a fever dream but the pain in her wrists and ankles suggested otherwise. Indeed when the sheet fell back as she sat up she could see the abrasions and bruises on her wrists where the chains had been.
