“Will your children go back straight away or stay for the first part of the meeting?” Idaturan asked. “We’ve barely met and I would like some chance to get to know my potential allies.”

“It’s up to them,” Matthias said. “But I think they can afford to stay for a little while if they want.”

Lydia looked at her siblings and Kyle, who all nodded. “Okay, we’ll stay a for a bit.”

By the time Matthias, Sonia and the other adults got back from the meeting, Ian had located the block of flats and they knew that they had until the morning before the events of the vision and Lydia and Daniel had cooked dinner. The vial struck the girl and she glowed momentarily with a light that the soldiers seemed unable to see. Her mouth opened in a scream and a wave of sound burst from her. The windows in the high rise block shattered and the sonic wave struck the soldiers with bone crushing force. The glass falling from above conspicuously avoided the girl and the Kithreian even skittering off at odd angles when it came close to them as if bouncing.

Most of the patrol was incapacitated or dead – Lydia wasn’t sure which – but one of them struggled to his knees and aimed at the girl again and fired. The bullet bounced just as the glass had. She screamed again and his torso exploded. Read the rest of this entry »

“I seem to remember that you have a remarkable talent for precognition,” Julie said to Tarian as they walked back towards the house. “And Naria-alra certainly seemed to think so.”

“Not that amazing,” he said. “I mostly get hunches and feelings. If I’m getting visions without meditating it’s something major. My talent lies in my ability to clarify those hunches into visions via meditation.”

Daniel found Lydia and Karen on the doorstep of one of the nearby dorm houses talking to two brunette girls about their age. As he approached, both his sisters look around at him. Of course they’d sensed him looking for them.
