When they reached the hall, Irina was already opening the door to let in Lucas, leading girl of about seven by the hand, and a tall dark haired man carrying an unconscious teenage girl with pale blonde hair.

“Anthony Williamson, welcome to our home.” Irina gave the man a surprisingly formal bow. “You are ever welcome here. Uncle Matt asked me to take you to your rooms. Doctor Tyler is resting but she will be along soon. Follow me, please.”

“Thank you.” Anthony nodded to her. “Selene is getting a little heavy.” He turned to Sonia. “Sonia! It is a pleasure to see you alive and well.” He seemed to be deliberately ignoring Lyrrekka. Read the rest of this entry »

When Lydia and her mother reached the study, Ian was standing in the centre of the room with not one but three laptops floating in the air around him. They seemed to be linked by streams of glowing light and Lyrrekka was sitting and watching.

“How’s it going?” Sonia asked.

Lyrrekka looked up and gave a tense smile. “This is one of the most insane things I’ve ever seen. And I feel rather superfluous. There’s not much that I can do to help with this. It’s remarkable. He’s remarkable.” Read the rest of this entry »

Lydia sat in the large conservatory of the Morgan house, determinedly reading a book of poems she had found in the library and trying not to look up at the glowing tear in the sky. More than that, she was trying not to think about the news reports and all those people who had died. It was not proving easy. The words were swimming around on the page and her stomach kept twisting around. If only she hadn’t been injured. It might not have made a difference but just maybe they would managed to stop him a few minutes earlier and this wouldn’t be happening.

“I know how you feel.”

“What?” Lydia looked around in surprise. She hadn’t noticed anyone come in but the pretty teen who had been introduced as their cousin Lisa was standing there, staring out into the garden. Read the rest of this entry »

Andrew couldn’t explain why the Morgan house felt like home, given that the last time he had been here he’d been two years old. He’d been looking forward to being back in his own room but his stuff was already in this room and it did feel like his. It felt safe – possibly even safer than home would.

“Your Uncle James took the liberty of picking up everyone’s stuff from the house,” Sonia said. “And it feels like home because it is your home. Even with Emms gone we’re probably safer here. There’s other dangers to consider.” Read the rest of this entry »

Sorry to RSS subscibers you’re about to get deluged with a month’s worth of posting as I get the lost posts back up after the server went down.

“Any word from your mentor yet, Lyd?” Matthias asked.

Lydia opened her eyes and shook her head.

“You haven’t, then?”

“I have, but she doesn’t have an answer for us, unfortunately. She says they never figured out how to close it but it gradually shrank and closed on its own after about a year and that she thinks we would be better concentrating on damage limitation. She also says we should get home and check on the news because it’s already begun and we need to be ready to help the worst affected.” She swallowed and rubbed at her arms. “She also says that the idri council is talking about war because of this. Some of them are that afraid.” Read the rest of this entry »

Downtime

December 18th, 2012  |  Published in News

So I was in the middle of posting Monday’s Dragon Wars Installment when the server my site is hosted on went kaput. A Small Orange got on it immediately but whatever had gone wrong was pretty serious. It’s just come up after 24 hours but the last four weeks of posts are gone. I still have them all so I’ll be getting the missing Dragon Wars posts up today and the missing Haventon Chronicles posts tomorrow or Friday (Thursday is my work team’s Christmas Dinner).

Haventon Hiatus

November 19th, 2012  |  Published in News

As I’m sure you noticed there wasn’t an Haventon update last week. There won’t be one this week or next week either. If you hadn’t guessed it’s fallen victim to NaNoWriMo. Kind of annoying when it’s only a chapter or so from the end. Just the climax and a bit of a epilogue and book one will be done.

Haventon book one will return on Tuesday 4th December and probably conclude sometime in the new year. At this point I’m not sure if I’ll launch straight into book two (Lord of the Wolves) or take a preplanned hiatus to build up some buffer.

Dragon Wars will continue to update Monday and Friday.

Sorry about that. 🙁

“So why did you say Emms forming his egg there was interesting?” Matthias said once they were all in the great hall.

“Ah, well, I would have expected him to flee and reform elsewhere,” Kitarian said.

“It’s a good point,” Estara said. “Dragons usually form their eggs in their miria’s nursery and Kithreia keep family nurseries. Those who can’t form their egg there for some reason form it somewhere their psychic instincts tell them is safe. If he formed it here that means his subconscious found it best – which is curious.” Read the rest of this entry »

Karen rushed over to Lydia’s side, with her parents only seconds behind. “How is she?”

“I’m fine, Kaz.” Lydia was sitting up and had been talking quietly to Sarah just before they arrived. “Not even a trace of a headache, but I don’t remember what happened. Sarah says I banged my head in the fight but I only just remember jumping in.”

“It’s quite common for the minutes before a head injury to be a blank,” Sarah said. “They don’t have time to become permanent before the trauma.” Read the rest of this entry »

“What happened?” Valeria asked as Sarah laid Lydia down. A grey-skinned dryad with green hair ran over to help her.

“She was trying to dodge one of Huldre’s attacks and landed badly,” Sarah replied. “She’s concussed and her arm is broken. I don’t think it’s too serious but we thought it was a good idea to evacuate her.”

“Agreed,” Valeria said. “How was it going?”

Sarah seesawed her hand uncertainly. “It’s touch and go, to be honest. Those two are obscenely strong. We were holding our own I guess but if they lose many more they’re going to be in trouble.” She looked around. “Where’s Hannah?” Read the rest of this entry »
