Anna was squirmy. The word felt strange in Ragnar’s mind but it was the one that fit the way she was wriggling around, trying to kick and hit him while he held her and waited for George to drag a second bed into the cell. What would she and Caroline make of each other? They were very different people.

“It’s done, master.” George was breathing hard from the effort when he emerged from the room.

The shift from Tara to Lucas was seamless. Hannah only realised that it had happened because Tara’s mind didn’t scratch against hers the way Lucas’s had. It was still unpleasantly alien compared to her family but Tara’s mind was similar enough to Sean’s that Hannah found it tolerable.

Yes, getting used to merging with people you don’t have a bond with is always tough, Tara said. I knew you and Sean dated but I didn’t know you had bonded.

Hannah hadn’t gone with the others to help locate Andrew. She’d been planning to go but Tara had asked her to help find out what had happened to her parents. She wasn’t sure how much help she’d be but Hannah couldn’t reject her plea.

Lydia had been right; getting a rough fix on Andrew was fairly easy. All the same, by the time they jumped for the third time as they refined the fix, Daniel was starting to feel dizzy. After he’d pinned down a direction, he sank down onto a nearby rock and rubbed tiredly at his eyes, then reached up to stroke Ebona’s nose where she stood beside him in resting form. He felt someone squeeze his shoulder and looked up to find Matthias looking down at him worriedly.

“Are you okay, Dan?” he asked softly.

“I ought to be more angry with you than I am,” Simon was saying as they entered the room. “Why did you lie to us?”

“The way Jayden had his claws in your head, you wouldn’t have believed me,” Matthias said. “How on Earth did you break free?”

“I’m not sure,” he replied. “But I couldn’t even see Andrew until he made a noise and even then it was an effort – but once I broke through that, everything seemed to shatter and I could think again. Tanya’s cousin Daniel turned out to be a pleasantly spoken young man with the same mid-brown hair as his cousin. To Leisa his eyes looked blue but she knew enough about werewolves to know that was some sort of mental illusion which even affected vampires. When he arrived Meredith was already there and was listening to Tanya’s explanation of the situation when he arrived. She looked up at him and gave a smile.

“Ah ha! So you’re Daniel?” Meredith stood and held out her hand. “So nice to finally meet you.”

“And you’re Meredith,” Daniel said equally mildly. “Sarah talks about you a lot.” He did not even hesitate before shaking her hand. “I wish more werewolf hunters were like you.” Read the rest of this entry »

Lydia paced as she waited for her father to come back from leading Lucas to help treat Simon.

“Calm down, Lydia,” James said. “It’ll be fine. There’s plenty to organise before you can go out and start your hunt, anyway. Let’s work on that, so you can be ready to go as soon as he’s finished. If Matt’s right, this young man may be able to help us narrow your search area down. That’d be helpful.”

When they teleported to Matthias, they found themselves in a secluded corner of a town park. Lydia wasn’t sure where and the trees and shubbery blocked her view of the skyline so she couldn’t tell.

Her father and Lyrrekka were kneeling by an unconscious young man lying on the grass. They seemed uninjured, however, and there was no sign of any attackers.
