“It is interesting,” Sonia said in response to what the Prime Minister had said on the news. “And yes, while I’m not getting any premonitions it is almost certainly a trap. It’s a shame summoning premonitions on demand is almost impossible so we can’t check the details of said trap.” She tutted to herself. “Still, it would be a shame to leave this invitation unanswered – we just need to find a way to do it without springing the trap. I doubt they understand the full breadth of our abilities so it should be possible.”

“It should indeed,” Matthias agreed. “Did Sophie Ashbourne respond to our imp yet? She might have some insight on what their plan is.” Read the rest of this entry »

Lydia stared at the sky a moment longer, then headed inside just as Lucas entered the kitchen with Jenny’s mother. The woman stopped and looked sheepish when she saw Lydia.

“Good morning,” Lydia said before she could speak. “Are you feeling calmer?” Read the rest of this entry »

Both Lydia’s gut and the news seemed quiet so she headed into the garden and stared up at the crack in the sky. It – and the energy leaking through it – was the source of all this trouble and things wouldn’t settle down until it closed. She closed her eyes and sent out her mind towards it, trying to sense anything helpful that might help get rid of it. But even though she could sense the energy pouring out of it, she found she could not actually sense the crack.

We tried that last time, my ilsra. Fellaria’s voice sounded in her head. But we never learned anything useful. Read the rest of this entry »

“What does she say?” Lydia asked when Alaryia’s imp came flying to Lyrrekka.

“Let me see.” Lyrrekka absorbed it and her eyebrows shot up. “Now that never occurred to me.” She scowled thoughtfully. “That might actually work.”

“What might?” Lydia asked. Read the rest of this entry »

“We’re willing, I think,” Lydia said. “But I’m not sure that it’s the best or most productive use of our time.” She tapped her fingers on the table thoughtfully. “We should ask our allies to look into that and then go and try to find her once we know where to look. I…” She hesitated and examined her feelings. “I think we need to look for the other dragon knights. I can’t explain why we need to but I have a sense that it’s important we find them.” Read the rest of this entry »

“They didn’t mention Bennu,” Lydia said as they ate breakfast. “He was on the footage attacking the Kithreian. They must have noticed him.”

“Hmm.” Matthias frowned at that. “He wasn’t very clear thanks to Daniel’s wards. He looked like a bird shaped fireball. It’s quite likely they thought he was a projection rather than a real phoenix. That would explain it.” Read the rest of this entry »

“Looks like you did well,” Matthias said when they hurried into the lounge. “They’ve got CCTV footage of what happened but Dan masked you well enough that no one would recognize you. Even better, they’re more interested in the Kithreian than the girl.” He pointed to the TV. “See?”

Lydia turned and watched the footage. It was showing them fighting the Kithreian but as her father had said, their features were indistinct and blurred somehow. She stared at the screen for a moment. “Dan did that?”

“He did,” her father said. He looked over at Daniel. “You’re really good.” Read the rest of this entry »

A/N: somehow originally posted last Monday’s post again. Sorry about that – here’s the right one.

Julie had opened the gate into the garden of the dorm house rather than the house itself. Lydia got the feeling that placing the exit in a small space would have been risky, but there was nobody out here to help with their frightened guests. She took advantage of Jenny’s mother’s shock at being transported so abruptly to shoot a mental appeal to her parents. Read the rest of this entry »

The girl looked much as she had in the premonition as she walked out of the door. Her eyes were open but glazed and her movements were jerky as she walked towards the soldiers. Daniel concentrated and tried to spread his concealment wards around her but it was it was obvious from the way they swung towards the door that his efforts had failed.

“Miss, go back inside, please,” one of them said. “The situation is under control and curfew doesn’t end for an hour.”

The girl didn’t respond but kept walking. The soldier didn’t raise his gun but instead tilted his head.

“Sir, I think she’s sleepwalking,” he said. “What should we do?” Read the rest of this entry »

The Kithreian screamed and leapt backwards, swatting at Bennu as he did. Steam rose from the Kithreian’s hands as he hit the phoenix but Bennu seemed unaffected, digging his claws in until green blood ran down his assailant’s face. Read the rest of this entry »
