Lydia took a moment to orientate herself when they emerged outside the block of flats. The point where they had arrived was right where they had been in the vision. Given the curfew and the brightness of the street lights, she looked around for any sign of police or soldiers.
Dan, have you got us concealed? she asked.
Of course, he said. No one will notice us unless we do something obvious, I promise. Read the rest of this entry »

Lydia’s head was full of fog when her alarm went off at three in the morning. She groaned and went to hit the snooze button but Bennu flared up and landed on her arm.
“No, Lyd!” he said. “You have to get up now or you won’t have time to prepare before you have to leave.” Read the rest of this entry »

“We’ve been told you want to return to Earth.” Matthias said. “Are you aware how much it has changed?”
Indaturan nodded. “I am, but that just makes me more intrigued. It sounds interesting if a bit crowded.”
“Interesting is one word,” Matthias said. “There are others. But even non-aggressive dragons can be a major threat if they get injured. I know from Lyr that this isn’t a risk for you but if you want Earth to be safe for dragons in general–” Read the rest of this entry »

“Will your children go back straight away or stay for the first part of the meeting?” Idaturan asked. “We’ve barely met and I would like some chance to get to know my potential allies.”
“It’s up to them,” Matthias said. “But I think they can afford to stay for a little while if they want.”
Lydia looked at her siblings and Kyle, who all nodded. “Okay, we’ll stay a for a bit.”
“I’ll take Kari to bed and be right back,” Lyrrekka said as she led Karilya back towards the portal. Just don’t forget what we told you, she added mentally. Indaturan will charm the socks off you but he’s capable of horrifying things as well if it serves his purpose. Read the rest of this entry »

When they arrived at Ystelyan’s palace, a white-robed man with a snakelike creature coiled around his body was waiting with him.
“My mirian!” Adrian dropped to one knee before the stranger, who smiled down at him and laid a hand on his head.
“It is good to see you, my alran. Please rise and introduce me.” Read the rest of this entry »

By the time Matthias, Sonia and the other adults got back from the meeting, Ian had located the block of flats and they knew that they had until the morning before the events of the vision and Lydia and Daniel had cooked dinner. While they ate, they told their parents what they had found and Lydia outlined her plan to deal with it.
“I told you Lyd was good choice,” Sonia said when she’d finished. “That’s an excellent plan.” Read the rest of this entry »

The vial struck the girl and she glowed momentarily with a light that the soldiers seemed unable to see. Her mouth opened in a scream and a wave of sound burst from her. The windows in the high rise block shattered and the sonic wave struck the soldiers with bone crushing force. The glass falling from above conspicuously avoided the girl and the Kithreian even skittering off at odd angles when it came close to them as if bouncing.
Most of the patrol was incapacitated or dead – Lydia wasn’t sure which – but one of them struggled to his knees and aimed at the girl again and fired. The bullet bounced just as the glass had. She screamed again and his torso exploded. Read the rest of this entry »

The group followed Julie’s order suggestions and the merge went smoothly, so they were soon ready to begin.
But how do we do this? Lydia asked. There’s nothing to feed in like we did with the visions of our fight with Emms.
You need to feed your feelings in, Tarian replied. I’ll use my ability to clarify hunches into visions, then Julie will clarify them further if needed. Okay? Read the rest of this entry »

“I seem to remember that you have a remarkable talent for precognition,” Julie said to Tarian as they walked back towards the house. “And Naria-alra certainly seemed to think so.”
“Not that amazing,” he said. “I mostly get hunches and feelings. If I’m getting visions without meditating it’s something major. My talent lies in my ability to clarify those hunches into visions via meditation.”
“Ah! That’s even better in this situation. I was wondering how we were going to get a hook in.” Read the rest of this entry »

“Given that we have absolutely nothing to go on except feelings, this is not going to be easy,” Julie said. “There’s nothing to hook onto.” She looked over at Naria and Andrew who had joined them in the lounge. “Neither of you have sensed anything?”
“Nothing,” Andrew said. “I’m fairly sure that all the anxiety I’m feeling is triggered by the situation.”
“The future could hit me over the head with a hammer and I wouldn’t notice,” Naria said. “I have less precognitive ability than a particularly unobservant rock, according to Lady Rilletta when she was teaching me clairvoyance.” Read the rest of this entry »
